Corporate Social Investment

'Charity begins at home.' Zimalco’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme is designed and implemented to enhance the lives of the disadvantaged community in the areas where Zimalco is based.

Research was carried out to establish how we could contribute to the community of Wattville. At the end it was agreed that we focus on education, more specifically on primary education.

In 2012 we adopted Kgothalang Primary School in Wattville. Kgothalang is a co-educational school which caters for primary education for the previously disadvantaged learners locally and some other townships in the Benoni and Germiston areas.

We are of the notion that “Rome was not built in a day”, therefore our initiative at the school has been broken down into a project plan which is on-going. We continue to engage with the school on a regular basis for any other educational needs.

We are proud to state that during 2012 and 2013 we managed to bring the following changes to the school:

  • Built a shelter over the assembly area;
  • Refurbished the ablution area by fitting new toilet cisterns, basins, taps, doors and a tiled roof;
  • Fitted foam mats in two pre-primary classrooms;
  • Purchased summer and winter school uniforms for 30 learners;
  • Provided stationery for 30 learners;
  • Provided computers for the admin office; and
  • Purchase monthly train tickets for two siblings who commute from Germiston to Benoni on a daily basis.

Our company together with our employees have further committed to provide toilet tissue rolls and sanitary towels to the school on a monthly basis.

Metro Sanitary Solutions CC has agreed to provide sanitary bins for the girls’ bathrooms at the school as well as to service them on a regular basis at no cost.
